- Textbooks include Nelson Mathematics 8, and the online resource Math Help Services.
- Homework: Students can expect to be assigned math homework every math class, but never due the following math period. Students are expected to work on math for 30 minutes per evening. I always give students a window of 3-5 days to finish all assigned math.
- Online MHS assignments are typically to be completed three or four days after their issue date, to be certain that students have access to a computer or device on which they can complete their homework.
- Evaluation: Students are evaluated on quizzes, standardized tests, situational problems and online assignments on MHS. These online assignments DO count for 5% of their term mark. Report cards reflect the two competencies of Mathematical Reasoning and Solves a Situational Problem
- Ms. Gervasi's “re-do” policy: Any student that receives a mark of 60% or lower on a quiz is permitted to redo a similar quiz on the same content as many times as they wish, until they reach a mark of 80%. The goal is that the student master the content, given the opportunity.
- Standard Exams and Situational Problems cannot be redone, as they represent a substantial amount of preparation on the part of the teacher. Students may review their exams and situational problems in class as a whole, as well as individually with the teacher.
